What Can You Cook in an Air Fryer?

When I first got my air fryer, I mentally filed it under "fries and frozen snacks machine." It took a few months of actually experimenting before I realized how wrong that was. These days it handles a good chunk of my meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner, even the occasional dessert and I still find new things to try in it.
If you're wondering whether yours is capable of more than reheating leftovers, here's everything I've actually made in mine.
Snacks and Starters
This is the obvious one, but it goes further than fries. I regularly make cutlets, tikkis, samosas (store-bought or homemade), spring rolls, and pakoras with almost none of the oil a kadai would need. Crispy chickpeas and roasted makhana have also become regular evening snacks in my house - no deep frying, no lingering oil smell in the kitchen afterward.
Vegetables, Done Properly
Roasted vegetables were a genuine surprise for me. Bell peppers, zucchini, cauliflower, and sweet potato all come out with a nice char and caramelization that's hard to get evenly on a stovetop without babysitting the pan constantly. A digital air fryer with a proper preset makes this almost foolproof — toss, season, set the time, and walk away.
Proteins
Chicken breast, drumsticks, fish fillets, and paneer all cook well, coming out juicy inside with a crisp exterior. I marinate mine for at least half an hour beforehand, which makes a noticeable difference. It's become my default for quick weeknight protein without needing a pan of oil or a full grill setup.
Breakfast
This one took me by surprise. I've made hard-boiled eggs, reheated parathas so they're crisp instead of soggy, and even done a quick egg & veggie bake in a small oven-safe dish inside the basket. Mornings when I'm short on time, this has genuinely replaced the stovetop for me.
Baking, in Small Batches
I wasn't expecting this one either, but small cookies, muffins, and even a simple banana bread in a mini tin all work in mine. It's not a full oven replacement for large-batch baking, but for a small household or a quick craving, it does the job well.
Reheating Leftovers
This might be the most underrated use. Leftover pizza, fries, or fried snacks come out of an air fryer crisp again instead of the soggy mess a microwave usually leaves behind. I use mine for this almost as often as I do for actual cooking.
A Few Things That Help Across the Board
-
Don't overcrowd the basket - food needs room for hot air to circulate evenly.
-
Shake or flip halfway through most recipes.
-
A light oil coating (even just a spray) usually gives better browning than none at all.
-
Check smaller or thinner items a couple of minutes early - they tend to cook faster than you'd expect.
My Everyday Experience
On my AGARO Galaxy Ar Fryer, I've stopped thinking of it as a single-purpose gadget entirely. Between the digital presets and a basket that's roomy enough for a proper family portion, it's ended up covering a wider range of meals than any other single appliance in my kitchen - snacks, dinner, breakfast, and the odd dessert, all without much extra thought.
If you've only been using yours for fries and frozen snacks, there's a lot more on the table. Once you start treating it as an everyday cooking appliance rather than an occasional one, it's genuinely surprising how much of your weekly cooking it can take over.
